From July 8th to August 5th, Jason Dain, a renowned local naturalist will be your guide every Saturday. These tours will depart at 7:00 am and return at 10:00 am, spending 1 hour at Pearl Island. This tour is truly a photography and birder tour not to be missed.
Pearl Island is one of the most southern Puffin nesting colonies on the southwestern coast of Nova Scotia, where you'll also see; Razorbills, Black Guillemots, Common Terns, Common Eiders and Seagulls. Then we'll steam back to Seal Rock to watch the seals sunbathing or feeding depending on the tides and then cross the head of beautiful St. Margaret's Bay.
Here are some common birds that hang out at Pearl Island: Atlantic Puffin, Black Guillemot, Razorbill, Common Murre (occasional), Double-crested Cormorant, Arctic Tern, Common Tern, Great Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, Black-legged Kittiwake, Sooty Shearwater, Great Shearwater, Cory’s Shearwater, Manx Shearwater, Wilson’s Storm Petrel, Leach’s Storm Petrel, Great Blue Heron, Peregrine Falcon and Bald Eagle.
